   John S. Carroll, Ph.D.


John S. Carroll is Professor of Behavioral and Policy Sciences at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He previously served on the faculties of Carnegie-Mellon University, Loyola University of Chicago, and the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. Dr. Carroll was a Marvin Bower Fellow at the Harvard Business School during 1998-1999. He holds a doctorate in social psychology from Harvard University and is a Fellow of the American Psychological Society.

Dr. Carroll has made significant contributions to work on individual and group decision making in a variety of contexts. From 1990 to 1995 he directed the Organization and Management Study Group of the MIT International Program for Enhanced Nuclear Power Plant Safety. His current research interests include self-assessment, organizational learning, and safety culture in industries such as nuclear power and health care in which safety and quality are as important as financial results. He has consulted recently to Northeast Utilities, Boston Children’s Hospital, Korea Electric Power Company, and Westinghouse/WIPP.
