   Carol Keohane, RN


Carol Keohane, RN serves as Program Director for the Center of Excellence for Patient Safety Research and Practice. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing all research operations for projects funded through the Center including training, quality control, data management, and data analysis. Ms. Keohane recruits, trains, manages and evaluates the study-specific activities of a multi-disciplinary project staff of both research personnel (research assistants, administrative assistants, data entry, and programming personnel) and clinicians (research nurses, and research specialists). Ms. Keohane also acts as a liaison between the Center and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, other federal agencies, as well as other funding sources such as private non-profit organizations, donors, and private sector corporations.

Ms. Keohane is a Registered Nurse with broad clinical experience in high-risk obstetrics as well as general ob/gyn and neonatology nursing. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from St. Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire. She has been involved in hospital quality improvement activities for many years having first served as a Quality Assurance Specialist for the Department of Ob-Gyn at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center from 1994-1998. She also served as a member of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center's Quality Council from 1996-1997. From 1998- 2002, Ms. Keohane held the position of Perinatal Nurse Specialist for the Maternal Fetal Medicine Division of OB/GYN at Beth Israel Medical Center. In this position, Ms. Keohane was responsible for implementing and monitoring all operational activities of the maternal transport program while acting as a liaison for physicians from six community referring hospitals. Since 1998, Ms. Keohane has also served as a Nurse Reviewer for the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists Voluntary Review of Quality of Care program.
