E. Francis Cook, ScD is a Professor of Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public health. He is the Director of the Methodology Core for the Center of Excellence for Patient Safety Research and Practice at Harvard. Dr. Cook received his BA in Mathematics from Providence College, an MA in Mathematics from the University of Massachusetts and an MS and ScD in Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH).

He is the Co-Director of the Program in Clinical Effectiveness at HSPH. He is also the head of the Concentration of Clinical Effectiveness within the Masters of Public Health (MPH) Program at HSPH and oversees the curriculum of the Department of Epidemiology at HSPH. Dr. Cook created and oversees the summer-only MPH program and the summer-only Master of Science in Epidemiology Program at HSPH for clinicians who can only attend courses during repeated summer periods. He has supervised the required research projects for over 50 students in these programs. He has collaborated with clinical investigators at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and with other local and international investigators on a variety of clinical research projects. He is an author on over 140 publications.

Dr. Cook is a member of the Biostatistics Core and of the Measurement Core for the Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center. His specific research interests in epidemiologic methods include multivariable methods for controlling confounding, instrument development and evaluation, and data mining and prediction. He teaches courses in all of these areas at HSPH. Dr. Cook is also the Co-Director for the Programa de Efectividad Clinica in Buenos Aires.
